Evaluative Summary and Recommendations

 Recommendation for Using Khan Academy

Khan Academy is a free academic website that provides access to persons from all over the world. Its website is easily to navigate, and all links are working. Most subject areas are covered comprehensively, especially the core subject areas, and learning can be individualised. Once the teacher creates a classroom, the teacher is clearly identified, and they have total authority to manage and support the online classroom. Teachers can seamlessly integrate their Google classroom into Khan Academy. They can control and track students' academic progress and tailor activities to students' ability so that they can learn at their own pace. In addition, instant feedback is given to students, this helps to clear up any misconceptions immediately by allowing students to request assistance either from the teacher, hints on the site or even Khanmigo, the site's AI powered guide. It must be noted that it is best for students to be added via school accounts so that teachers have all authority and can add the parents and other persons.

Although the site offers adaptive learning, many of the learning activities are not as interactive and immersive as some other academic website, thus giving the site design a more formal atmosphere as opposed to fun. However, the mastery challenges offered by the site, along with LearnStorm, can help teachers to make the class more interactive and fun, if used appropriately by the teacher.

Khan Academy does have some improved accessibility feature for those with vision impairments or for those who suffer from sensory overload. Although their videos have transcripts and caption, there is no built-in text-to-speech application, and based on the design of the site, using external narrator applications would be ineffectual since they would be unable to read the information from the screen in the correct order.

The site itself does not have any dates attached to the listed activities and lessons, showing when they were uploaded. However, when teachers place content into their classrooms, the dates will be shown; dates will also be shown when students read and view the content, or when activities are assigned and scheduled.

Most of the lessons are scaffold, particularly in the core subject areas, and appear to meet the needs of the learner. It must be noted that the presence of a teacher to guide students through lessons would be more advantageous than self-directed learning, as lessons are more procedural than conceptual. Teachers would be able to better support the learners and clear up any misconceptions.

Khan Academy scored 41/45 and I would recommend it to be used as a tool for enhancing the teaching and learning process. Teachers can use it comprehensively; not only to plan lessons but also to effectively teach students, by tailoring individual learning experiences for each learner, so that they can learn at their own pace. Students can take ownership of their own learning as well, by participating in mastery challenges, and interacting with either the AI or by requesting assistance from their teacher, when they need learning support.

LearnStorm by Khan Academy

LearnStorm is a mastery challenge program that Khan Academy uses as a data tracker. It uses class level challenges to track students' performance.  Teachers can use it as a fun way to help students improve their skills and knowledge.   LearnStorm  tracks the entire class’s performance and presents it in a fun visual that shows how each individual student is contributing to the overall class performance in a particular area. Students are not identified in the visual; and their progress is only recorded on the LearnStorm tracker once they have passed the mastery proficiency level. Class progress is presented in rings, and for each ring to be completed, it requires that the number of assignments completed is three times the number of students in class. This motivates learners to master content and encourages them to work together to achieve class goals. Students can also use LearnStorm to track their own individual performance. The Importance of Reviewing Educational Technologies

Selecting the best types of educational technology is extremely important to enhancing the teaching and learning process. Consequently, teachers must ensure that they develop the skills and knowledge to use them effectively and efficiently. Many educational technologies can be effectively used to stimulate learning and support students' learning challenges. However, it is imperative that the best educational technology is used. Many educational tools in circulation may have several issues that the user may be unaware of, such as poor content design, inadequate documentation, not user friendly or may be too expensive in comparison to another substitute. Some of these concerns could affect student learning outcomes and teachers' effectiveness. It is for this reason that this blog seeks to evaluate all possible educational technologies so that teachers, parents and coaches can provide learners with the best learning experience. What is Education Technology (EdTech)?
